You'll often find it in serums, moisturizers, and cleansers because it plays well with other ingredients and doesn't leave a heavy feel.
It's also used in small amounts as a preservative booster, which helps formulas stay fresh longer. The ingredient is generally well tolerated and doesn't tend to cause irritation for most people. If your skin leans sensitive, it's still worth patch testing any new product, but ethylhexylglycerin isn't a common trigger.
