Holiday Makeup the Right Way

Holiday Makeup the Right Way

Your appearance is enhanced by the use of holiday makeup.  Makeup can be altered with what you are wearing and make you look and feel more classy and beautiful.  Here are some tips and recommendations to prepare your skin and apply your makeup with some special effects to make you look and feel more elegant for the holiday season.

Skin Care

Holiday makeup should always be applied to clean and well moisturized skin.  Always look after your skin with a good cleansing and moisturizing routine.  The winter weather is cold and dry and drains your skin of moisture.  It is advised to try a deep moisturizer with a more creamy texture in winter so it will penetrate deeper.  You could even try homemade moisturizers that will naturally feed and renew your skin.
Foundation

The right foundation is the first and most important aspect of your look.  If you suffer with dark circles around your eyes, choose a concealer with white undertones to lighten and brighten your eyes.  Apply a foundation matched to your skin tone over your whole face blending well.  To set your makeup and give it a more matte look, apply a translucent powder.  If you happen to be lucky enough to have perfect skin, you can skip the foundation and simply use the powder.
Eyes

Eyeshadow color can be anything that appeals to you.  Shadows come in every color of the rainbow and even dark gray (almost black).  Purple has become quite stylish for winter.  For the holidays, consider trying some of the gold shades and even add some glitter for more elegance.

In doing up your eyes, you can either stick to the basic look or to be noticed and for evening wear, choose a more emphasized eye.  The basic look is achieved by applying a colored shadow along the lid line and blending upward over lid to the midway point; be sure to keep it light.  Finish the look with eyeliner along the lid; either thin or thicker according to your preference.

Finish off your eyes with the eyelash curler and an application of a good mascara.

Lip Care

Lips need to be kept soft and moisturized and, of course, kissable.  Winter wind and cold weather dries out your lips and licking them outdoors further damages them.  Drink lots of liquids during winter and keep your lips moist with balms and lip moisturizers.

As for lipstick, darker shades are fine for winter.  A glamorous look can be achieved with the reds and create the lady-like feel and appearance.  A caution when choosing red lipsticks is to keep the eyes subtle so that your look doesn’t become overdone.  However, if you choose to wear the darker eye colors, keep the lips more natural.  A light shade of lipstick, lip gloss or even just some lip balm would suffice.

Holidays are a time for you to experiment with your look.  Try some of the newer holiday makeup ideas and don’t be afraid to add some glitter to finish off your look.  It will make you feel and look more feminine and totally glamorous.
